Earth Stories: brand creation, naming, identity and packaging for a farmer owned food company

Earth Stories ·

The farmers do not supply this brand. They own it.

(01) Project overview

Earth Stories is a food brand belonging outright to the people who grow for it, structured as a one hundred percent farmer owned producer company. BBT partnered from inception, before there was a name, through strategy, identity, packaging, communication and storytelling.

Most food brands are built about farmers. This one is built by them, which quietly changes who the brand has to convince. Before a single shopper saw it, the brand had to be something the growers themselves would put their own name to.

(02) The first audience

The first audience was not the shopper. It was the grower.

A farmer producer company only works if its members commit their crop and their name to it. Get the brand wrong and you have not merely lost a shopper, you have lost a supplier who is also a shareholder. So it had to earn belief in two directions at once, outward to consumers and inward to the people who own it. Confidence inside the company had to come before recognition outside it.

(03) The philosophy

Not another natural food brand.

Natural, organic, farm fresh, pure. The category's vocabulary was exhausted long before Earth Stories arrived, and none of it says anything a shopper has not already walked past a hundred times. So the positioning moved off the product entirely. Food with a Farmer's Soul turns every pack into a bridge between the person who grew it and the family at the table. Purpose only becomes a position when the product cannot be separated from it.

(04) The identity

An identity drawn from the land that pays for it.

The marks come from the landscape itself. A rising sun for new beginnings. The Satpura range for resilience. A farmer's hand for care and craftsmanship. Rivers, leaves and crops holding the system together. Rooted enough that a member recognises their own geography in it, contemporary enough to survive a modern retail shelf. A logo a farmer can point at and say that is our hill is worth more than one that merely looks well made.

(05) Authenticity, not advertising

Express it, do not sell it.

Packaging, brand language, retail communication and even the stationery were built to express rather than to persuade. The brand talks about the journey behind the grain instead of claiming superiority over the next bag on the shelf. For an organisation this size that is also the only affordable route. A small brand cannot outspend anyone. It can out mean them.

(06) What changed

A small brand, built to carry a large ambition.

Confidence, firstIn the client's own words the biggest change was not the logo, it was the confidence of the farmers standing behind it.
Owned by the people who grow itA consumer brand a fully farmer owned company can take into modern retail without borrowing anyone else's voice.
A system that stretchesIdentity, packaging, retail and communication all run from one guideline, so growth does not require starting again.

Frequently asked

Earth Stories, in short.

What is Earth Stories?

Earth Stories is a food brand created for a farmer producer company, built to connect consumers directly with the farming communities that grow the produce. It was created from inception with BigBrandTheory as brand partner, covering strategy, naming, identity, packaging, communication and storytelling.

Who owns Earth Stories?

Earth Stories is a 100 percent farmer owned Farmer Producer Company. The farmers who grow for the brand are its owners, which is what separates it from food brands that source from farmers without sharing ownership with them.

What does Food with a Farmer's Soul mean?

It is the brand philosophy BBT wrote for Earth Stories. Rather than positioning the brand as another natural food label, it moves the argument from product attributes to the people behind the produce, so every pack acts as a bridge between the farmer who grew the food and the family at the table.

What is the Earth Stories identity inspired by?

The landscape the brand comes from. A rising sun symbolises new beginnings, the Satpura mountains reflect resilience, and a farmer's hand celebrates care and craftsmanship. Flowing rivers, leaves and crops tie the system together, keeping the identity rooted in the land while staying contemporary enough for modern retail.

What did BigBrandTheory deliver for Earth Stories?

Brand strategy, brand naming, brand identity, packaging design, communication strategy, retail communication, storytelling and brand guidelines, with the system extending across packaging, brand language, stationery and retail experience.
